Gluten-free for $10

So I went to a gluten-free event in King of Prussia today, the Celiac Awareness Tour, thinking it would be like the Appetite for Awareness I went to a year or so ago. Lots of samples, coupons, goodies to take home. Eh, not so much. Food samples yet, but instead of brownies or half sandwiches there were micro-bites of things. Big display of cake pops, tiny postage stamp-sized samples. One table for a restaurant that is nowhere near me had two nice looking pizzas laid out, but were not offering a taste. Had some nice ravioli and gnocchi, though, but I'm not paying $12 for 8 ravioli to cook at home. Oh well, I guess that's the difference between a $50 ticket and a $10 ticket. Then came the question of where to eat lunch - it would have been nice for someone to post a list of local places to eat, but I asked around and got a recommendation of Legal Seafood in the mall across the street. Had some nice cornmeal crusted-shrimp, and an actual roll - well, a gluten-free version, which appeared to be a small lump of bread dough baked in a muffin pan. It wasn't great, but it was a small thrill to be sitting in a restaurant buttering and eating something that was almost bread, just like normal people. But today had an "is that all there is?" feeling to it.

For about a year I've been holding a gluten-free class once a month for newbies, but lately no one's signing up, so I'm going to stop that. The cafeteria at work showed me some gluten-free pizza shells, so they think they can feed me, but I'm going to request they get some training first. Got some gluten-free Naked Pizza last night, but it's mediocre even with extra sauce.

No sign of the girl except for occasional Facebook postings, so she's still alive. I'm glad that she took the step of cutting herself off from us, which might sound harsh, but I think it has worked out better for both of us. I certainly have more money staying in my hands and no thefts.  I have curiosity about her, but no desire to be around her.  I had enough of that drama.  Sue me for being a bad mother.
